P2P traffic clogging broadband

I think he went like "what the F***" when he read this article on The Star In-Tech, printed on Wednesday 1st of March with the title TM Net: P2P traffic clogging broadband. I felt the same way too.

Echo("Peer-to-peer (P2P) traffic is choking up local broadband lines with 20% of users utilizing 80% of the total bandwidth, according to Internet service provider (ISP) TM Net Sdn Bhd.")("Such applications are often left on all day so they use much more bandwidth compared to users who merely use the Internet to surf or chat")("We are not against our customers using P2P. However, it is an unfair situation which needs to be addressed, as we cannot upgrade our infrastructure (merely) for the benefit of the minority");

Ok, I'm a P2P user, and a TM Net customer. I think it's unfair that they blame us for "choking up" their lines. What's the point of providing us the unlimited bandwidth service if they are going to ("We are coming up with a system that will inform users of their bandwidth usage via their monthly bill, and will recommend packages that are most suitable for their level of consumption"). That's like just asking us to pay for the amount of bandwidth we use, beats the purpose of me applying for the unlimited bandwidth package isn't it?!

I'm also curious on TM Net's stats. Is there any privacy issue that TM Net is stepping into here? I wonder what other things they are monitoring on their customers aka me.

If TM Net is providing these packages, they shouldn't expect that users will only use them to "chat and surf the web". Even on their own advertisement, they have stated

Echo("Who will benefit most? Basically, the service will benefit mostly the: Residential customers with heavy Internet usage who have been using the net via 56kbps dial-up or ISDN.")

And that includes P2P. So don't blame the users. We pay for your services.

all aus ISP here has limited bandwidth usage e.g. you pay aud1.50 per mb you exceeded in your chosen package. it really shucks.

i really appreciate streamyx now.

Yea.. Eventho it can be frustrating for them (or other users), I agree with you...

Before TM even come up with this idea / package, they should already know Malaysian culture (even if its not culture, shud anticipate the possibility of this happening)...

I really dunno HOW will (most?) Msian (*ahem* government *ahem* supported) companies succeed (globally)... U can't go and blame (OR suggest) that it's customers' fault... =P

TMNET is full of shit man. If they're gonna come up with new packages that limit our bandwidth usage like you said, beats the hell out of their current advertising schemes... Not sure if I wanna re-apply for their hoo shit services.

We should do a petition regarding this matter. I pay RM 88 1M download/512K upload. If i download FULL 1M and upload FULL 512K, what's wrong with it? I didn't steal anything from them. I pay for it. How i do it is not the matter. I should get what i pay for.
