I was having lunch at Genki Sushi with Jin and David today. I was enjoying my sashimi when the lights flickered.
12.30 noon, the whole KL City Center "shut down". Or I think I should say the whole of South Malaysia shut downed.
The lights went off, the air from the air conditioning stopped blowing, the conveyer belt rotating sushi came to a halt. David then tried to press for hot water to refill his green tea, the water that was running on an electric pump didn't work either. I had to leave early to head back to work, so I left early.
When I was walking out Suria KLCC, everyone was on their phones, walking down the escalator because everything was not working. I stepped out into the KLCC park and walked back to ExxonMobil under the hot sun just to find a group of about a 150 staff were standing outside. Soloh who called David earlier at Genki Sushi also said that his office was in a black out state.
I had to hang around the outside of the office. The security guard guarded the emergency exits so no one could enter for security reasons. No one could enter because the security gate did not work as it was powered by electricity.
About 1.15pm, an announcement was made to the staff outside the building, we were all asked to gather at the planned evacuation area, but no one did. The rest of the staff in the building was also evacuated. I called Jin again, and she said that there was still no electricity in KLCC. Zhong was in Port Klang, same thing there. Jun Kun was stuck in a jam in Cheras, the traffic lights went out. Same thing with Eva's office too. The only person I know of who was still enjoying the wonders of electricity was Apple!
Me and my colleagues end up in front of the car park taking about the possibilities to go home. We sat around until 2.45pm. Then the management announced that we could leave. Those who parked their cars in the basement will not be able to get their cars out. Those of us who have wallets, documents, keys and other belongings will have to wait.
I feel kind of guilty then, because my initial lunch was left in a colleagues room. A McValue Meal, double cheese burger! It's going to stink up her room by tomorrow. I better remember to bring some air freshener and perfume to get rid of the smell for her tomorrow.
Anyway, I didn't bother to go up and take me belongings. My handphone, purse and employee tag was with me so I just left work, wearing my heels. (My poor legs) I shared a taxi with 2 of my other superiors so the fare didn't kill me. *phew* When I reached the LRT, I found out that they closed. I don't know how to get to KLCC tomorrow without the LRT! Hopefully the electricity will be back and everything will be running smoothly.
I just pray that my belongings will be there at my cubicle when I get back. My CD's, my bag, my shoes, and my mp3 player.
