Fete De La Musique in One Utama

I was at the Fete De La Musique in One Utama yesterday. It sucked big time. I will make sure I carry myself to KL where the real music is played.

I got to One Utama about 6 in the evening and found the oddest location for the event. The event was held in the RainForest area of One Utama shopping complex. There was no open space for audiences to sit and watch and the location was definitely secluded.

The arrangement of the stage was really off. The register for the bands was in the wrong location also. Band members had to walk in between the audience and stage to register...while the other bands were playing.

The MCs are.... the worst MCs I have seen\heard. They don't know their facts when introducing bands, they say things that should not be said by MCs. At a point they were actually complaining to the crowd how boring they feel!

All the bands that played in One Utama are local. Yeah... you can guess on the quality of music already. The Fete De La Music in One Utama is more like an amateur battle of the bands. Some bands really sucked. Some are Ok. Some are different, but you know la, not everyone can accept different music. The band had to stop playing after one song. Sad. I enjoyed their Iron Maiden =) The last band that was performing was nice. The vocalist had a really good voice, the playing band wasn't that impressive though.

The Last band

I think really good vocalist is really important in a band. No matter how well a band can play, they will not stand out unless there's a strong\unique voice singing. All the 'ok' band played nice music, but many didn't have a good vocalist.

i'm sorry you didn't enjoy yourself as much as you could have; i agree that the stage location and arrangement was extremely awkward, and the event organization was a little topsy turvy, partially due to a lot of bands coming late or not showing up at all. but i would like to let you know that everyone working on the Fete were student volunteers who all tried their best to keep the show going as smoothly as possible.

i was one of the emcees for the 5-10pm slot. i appreciate your comments (although i personally can't remember mentioning any hint of boredom); I admit that I have yet to master the craft of keeping an audience entertained, but i do make an attempt to do the best at everything I do and revel in learning experiences. my co-host also had a long day at work before coming so he was pretty pooped by the time we took to the stage, so I must respect his sense of focus.

you should have come for the shows in town the next day, particularly at the Low Yat Main Stage. now THAT was a party.

chian, neither do i want to volunteer my services at OU..it sucked big time!! now, this is coming from a student volunteer from HUC!! YES! I'm a student of HELP and I agree with EC here...i was there at Sg. Wang last year and the emcees were great(after doing something they shouldn't be doing) and the bands were great!!

btw. i think vespertine played at Sg. Wang last year..that's if I remember correctly cos the band name sounds familiar...not too sure bout tempered mental though...

disco-very, are you a student at HELP?? considering you say you were MC-ing too, I guess you're from the ADP department?? which stage were you at? if you say you were at Sg. Wang, then you're either Maria or Melody...am i right??i only remembered a couple of names from the name list..hheheheh

once again, Chian..i'm sorry okay...i didn't want to go when I was told it was at OU this year but I thought the crowd should be good and didn't know it's at the Rainforest Wing either...nvm, i'll try to lobby for a stage at BB next year...we were given the OU stage cos the Business Department had more volunteers than us this year..to avoid that, i'll get more ppl to volunteer next year before hand..hehe..okay??sorry..make yourself free one day in June next year..hehe

hi jk,
yeah i'm from adp. i've been working fulltime for the past year & there's a long story behind why i'm back in college this semester. i wasn't stationed at sungei wang, only One Utama on Saturday and Low Yat main stage on Sunday...

HOLD ON, does this post refer to One Utama on Sunday or Saturday? i'm pretty confused now... eep!

Leona : My initial plan was to head down to a fete de la musique location in KL. But since One Utame is much nearer to my home, I decided to go there instead. Will surely go for the KL location next year.

Alynna: darn.... nvm..still got next year!

disco-very: I was there for the sunday session, but glad you enjoyed yourself :)

ky: hm...looking at hot chiq wasn't my main reason to be there...one of the emcees was actually hot... ref the photo, she the one with long hair sitting on the other other gal doing a split.
