Doing your own laundry : Part 1
A few of my not so 'aunty' and 'uncle' friends who are leaving home to study abroad have ask me a few 'aunty' and 'uncle' questions. Hais.. but I don't call them aunty or uncle. This is survival ... or just slavery in my case LOL! What am I talking about? Doing your own laundry.
Don't over load or soak clothes in the washing machine. There are springs and the washing machine mechanism that might spoil if you do that too often.
Separate your clothes. Dark colored and light colored clothed in different loads. Watch out for those new clothes that might discolor and beach your whole load of washed clothes with that particular color. Remember not to mix dark colored clothes with towels unless you want your clothes to have unwanted 'fur' that is %$#^ to remove. And guys, it's always a good idea so separate your loads, please don't wash your clothed with your rags! EEK!
Don't over use washing detergent\power\softener. Remember, less is more, but more is less. Too much chemical can kill your clothes faster. Do also use the entry slots provided by your washing machines. Sometimes you would end up getting some excess washing power sticking to your clothes. (I still wonder why that happens, the washing powder won't dissolve)
Empty out pockets. Coins and stuff might end up in and under the machine and will spoil the washing machine. Tissue paper will also mess up your load, especially when you are washing a load with dark colored clothes! Use a laundry net if necessary to avoid any damage to your clothes. I usually put my stretchable clothes in nets so that my clothes won't stretch with the wash. And for lazy bums who don't handwash their bras, use nets so you won't end up disfiguring and ripping the bra into two.
If you mess up your wash.. well do it again lo. Remember to empty out the dirt filter every 10 to 15 wash... and especially after a tissue paper action went on during the wash.
Tip: You can also wash your soft toys and shoes! in the washing machine. Hey... it's called the washing machine not the clothes washing machine. Just set the settings to wash only. You should not 'spin' your soft toys as it will reshape and spoil your toys... and as for the shoes... poor washing machine. Let your shoes drip dry la.
to be continued...
