Rimba Ilmu

I was at University Malaya's Rimba Ilmu yesterday for a company event to plant trees. But I didn't plant any. I was assigned to water plants instead. *sign* initially I was in the weeding team, but five of us "lucky" person was picked to water plants, seeds, and stuff.

I was assigned an outdoor location outside a green house. I was to water the plants surounding the green house, some potted plants and some on the ground. Had to make sure soil for some seed were moist and stuff. Yah I know.. really hard work you know :P Anyway I was done with watering the plants so me and another "lucky" one went to look for the rest of the gang who was planting trees.

I found some interesting citrus trees along the way.

This citrus tree was planted beside the common limau (lime) tree. The limau used when you order the air limau from the mamak. Not sure what species of citrus is this but the fruit is a oval, looked a lot like a green version of the Chinese New Year lime.

Nope, this is no cherry tree. It's some citrus tree too. Not sure what it is called but the fruit is so attractive. I wonder it taste nice...hehe

I found another tree opposite that tree and had a bunch of fruits on it too. I'm not sure if it was the same species of citrus but I found a bunch of unripe ones on the tree.

I wonder how long it takes until these turn as red.

Found some familiar plants there too. This is called "Sheh Yip" in Cantonese (snake leaf). I have them in my garden actually. I’ll eat the leafs when I feel heaty and have sore throat. Some Chinese pharmacy sells the dried version of these leafs in capsules and sells them actually.

Sirih leafs. I didn't know they were called Sirih until now. My mom and dad always refer to this leaf as Lengkalok. The leafs are used in a number of Baba and Nyonya dishes. Perut Ikan (fish stomach) and the otak-otak (brain-brain…hahah but the dish is actually just fish meat steamed with eggs, spices and stuff) are the more famous ones.

Back at the main Rimba Ilmu building, I found this mural at one of the walls. Really nice work done by a local secondary school's student near the university.

And this is me in the "Rimba Ilmu" (forest of knowledge). Thank god for the hat... it was light and airy straw hat what protected me from the sun.
