After all my failed plans for a holiday,
Cameron, Frasers, Genting,
Cambodia... I did finally manage to do something I planned for. A trip to the zoo.
Left the house, from Kelana Jaya, I took the LRT to Wangsa Maju. From the station, I
took a cab to the National Zoo. Putra LRT used to provide a free feeder bus to the zoo but they stopped the service because the demand was too low.
Paid my RM10 for my ticket, and off I went for my "adventure".
I took the train ride first from the entrance for the overview of the zoo. Yasin, the train driver was my guide for the whole train ride. (I got to sit up front with him!) He explained some interesting facts about some animals through out the ride and was very kind to let me use his binoculars. ...sadly, it started to rain cats and dogs at the end of the ride.
I couldn't do anything since it was raining, so I had my lunch at MarryBrown (a local fast food restaurant). When he rain subsided, I started my tour on foot. Yasin lent me an umbrella so I managed to stay dry waist up.
Anyway, I was told that I was actually quite lucky because it rained. One of the zookeeper (I forgot his name) told me that more action happens when it rains. I kind of have to agree with him because I saw the rhinos fighting, the elephant and tiger 'poop'ing. (Download movie

Managed to see the birds feed too. Papayas and other fruits were given to the birds in the bird house. ...bananas and pineapples to the fruit bats ...and fish to the storks. (Download movie

Before my adventure ended, I watched the animal show. But the animal show turned into the seal show because it seems that the rest of the performers were not in the mood due to the rain =(
Overall good trip though it rained.
I have seen and carried an albino python, played and been bitten by albino rabbits and lab rats, but an albino toad? I WANT ONE!!!!! Looks sooooo cute! Well scientifically I bet there's a lot of albino animal\reptiles (and not for getting human as well) but I have never seen an albino toad before.
Now this chick knows know to pose for the camera. Sexy baby.
Hello there handsome. I wanted to touch them... but I didn't dare. I was afraid that they might bite my finger off. Goose\Geese can be dangerous.
You Is Baboon. Enough said. LOL! ...nice ass.
My all time favorite flying rat!
Vampire blood Fruit bats!
Stoners of the bird park.
Looks like uncook delicious meat. I bet the meat is tough. FYI, this is not a cow. It's a bull if you can't tell the difference.
Well I guess he will be doing all the eating...
Ok, this is not the cow we eat... but I think they fall into the same family.
Si Sang Kancil, the animal, not the car.
I should have stolen one home. Would look really good in the garden!
I would have thought that TM would sponsor the Hippo in the Zoo.. since their mascot is the blue Hippo and all ... didn't remember seeing any TM sign. I might have missed that out.
Ah ... the wise one.
Bull riders should try riding the Rhino. .....scary, chances of leaving the world is much much higher.
I still like the goose and flamingo. The stork kind of scares me.
Imagine a wooden house floating house under the trees. A small jetty and a row boat. Some clothes and some fish drying out in the sun. My break away house .... kampung style.
The lady resting in her shack.
Don't play play ler, she can swim. I kind of freak out when she went into the water.
Echo("How many time must I tell you real estate agents that I'm not selling my home!");
I laughed really hard when I saw this gecko! HAHAHAHA it was on the wall with its tail down against his back!
Very very pretty snake don't you think. Love the color!
I'm a size 5. The leaf is like 4 times my feet size! HUGEEE!!
FYI;
1. Here's a
map for the railed transport in KL. You might find it useful to get to Wangsa Maju (or a few tourist attractions in Malaysia in a matter of fact).
2. Adult tickets are priced at RM10 per head. Children tickets are at RM5 per head. There are also group rates and discounts for school groups. Contact 03-41082219 (The zoo's education department) for pre-booking.
3. To sponsor an animal in the zoo, call the marketing department at 03-41083427
4. Got too much time in your hands? Why not do something nice and volunteer at the zoo? Call the zoo's education department at 03-41082219 for more information.
5. Opening hours 9am to 5pm daily. You can also visit the zoo at night during weekends and public holidays.
6. Animal show is at 11am and 3pm daily. Pony rides are only available on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 10.45am and 2.45pm.
Tips;
1. Cabs at the entrance of the zoo ‘waterfishes’ (take advantage of) their customers. All of them insisted that I pay them RM10 for a trip back to the LRT. Save some money by taking the pedestrian bridge across the main road. Catch a cab from the taxi stand there. It takes only 3 minutes to save RM5 and to discourage this kind of money sucking cab drivers.
2. There’s only MarryBrown restaurant and a Walls (the ice cream brand) café in the Zoo. You can pack your own lunch and eat at picnic areas.
3. Its good to bring umbrella(s) along. Wear a cap and tons of sunscreen. …and a pair of comfortable walking shoes.
Disclaimer: No animals were eaten on this trip except the chicken in MarryBrown.
